Newman-Gonchar Named USA Volleyball U21 Assistant Coach

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— University of New Mexico head volleyball coach Jon Newman-Gonchar has been selected to serve as an assistant coach for the USA Volleyball 2022 Under 21 team that will compete at the 2022 Women’s U21 Pan American Cup.

It is not the first time that Newman-Gonchar has been chosen for a USA Volleyball team, having most recently served as an assistant coach with the 2021 Women’s Indoor U20 National Training Team that competed in the 2021 FIVB Women’s U20 World Championship in the Netherlands and Belgium. The Lobo head coach has also been the head coach of the 2018 Team USA Pan American Cup team, where the team won gold in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. His time with USA Volleyball dates as far back as 2015, as assistant coach with the Pan American Cup team in 2015 in Lima, Peru.

The team will train May 26-June 4 at Centenary College of Louisiana in Shreveport. Twelve players will be chosen to compete at the 2022 Women’s U21 Pan American Cup on June 5-13 in Mexico. While training in Shreveport, the team will spend time with the U.S. Women’s National Team as it prepares for and competes in the FIVB Volleyball Nations League.
