Lobos Conclude Season at NCAA Albuquerque Regional

by Steve Kirkland

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Play concluded Wednesday at the NCAA Albuquerque Women’s Golf Regional with final round action at the UNM Championship Course. New Mexico juniors Jenny Lertsadwattana and Lauren Lehigh, competing as individuals among the field of 65 players, concluded their season with top-12 finishes.

Both Lertsadwattana and Lehigh finished the event T-11th at 2-over, two shots off the final individual qualifying place. Lehigh shot a 1-over 73 on Wednesday, while Lertsdawattana shot 75 in the final round.

“I’m proud of both of them for how they fought all week and all season long,” said UNM head coach Jill Trujillo. “In this event, you have to have the mindset of a champion and focus at a high level to have success. Jenny just didn’t have that level of focus today, while Lauren just couldn’t get a birdie putt to fall for her. Hopefully they can both learn from this experience and use it to improve as players. Those two, along with two other starters, will return next season and hopefully we can have a really good summer of hard work so we can take a step forward as a program.”

Oregon, Texas, Georgia and TCU were the four teams to advance to the NCAA Championships from the Albuquerque Regional. Marina Escobar Domingo of Florida and Viera Permata Rosada of Sam Houston advanced as individuals.
