by Steve Kirkland

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Play continued Tuesday at the NCAA Albuquerque Women’s Golf Regional with second round action at the UNM Championship Course. New Mexico juniors Jenny Lertsadwattana and Lauren Lehigh are competing as individuals among the field of 65 players.

Lertsadwattana shot a 2-under 70 during the second round to be tied for sixth place at 1-under after 36 holes. Lehigh shot a 1-under 71 on Tuesday and is tied for 12th place at 1-over.

“Both of them played solid golf today, but could have scored lower if they could have made a few more putts,” said UNM head coach Jill Trujillo. “Both are in contention heading into tomorrow. With a few more red numbers, both of them could get to the finals. It doesn’t matter if the wind blows, they are capable of good rounds. We play in these winds every day and know how to play in it.”

Second-ranked Oregon continues to lead the 12-team field, shooting 284 for the second straight day be the only team under par at 8-under. Georgia is second at even par, Texas is third at 1-over and TCU is fourth at 7-over, one shot ahead of Florida in fifth place. The top four teams after the three rounds will advance to the NCAA Championships, as will the top two individuals (not on advancing teams). Lertsadwattana is currently tied for the second advancing individual position.

Oregon’s Briana Chacon is the individual leader at 10-under, shooting a second-round 69 to follow 65 in the opening round. Only 10 players are under par through the first 36 holes.

The final round of the NCAA Albuquerque Regional is Wednesday. Play begins at 8:00 a.m. and admission to the event is free.
