RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – The New Mexico women’s golf team opened play Monday at the 2022 Mountain West Championship with the first round at the Dinah Shore Course at Mission Hills Country Club. The Lobos shot 9-over during the opening round to finish the day in fourth place.

San Jose State is the 18-hole leader of the championship at 9-under. Fresno State is second at 3-over, followed by San Diego State at 8-over and the Lobos at 9-over.

Jenny Lertsadwattana, Caroline Jansson, Lauren Lehigh are all in the individual top 10, each shooting a 2-over 74 on Monday to be tied for 10th. Myah McDonald shot 3-over and Lisa-Marie Pagliano shot 4-over as UNM joins San Jose State as the only teams to have all five players in the top 25 individually.

“Over the last four holes, we gave away seven shots,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “It is so important to finish strong out here to stay towards the top of the leaderboard. We will need to do a better job of that over the last two rounds.”

The tournament continues Tuesday and concludes Wednesday at the Mission Hills Country Club.
