Assistant Soccer Coach Mick Supple Steps Down From Role

by Alma Solis

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico head women’s soccer coach Heather Dyche has announced the departure of assistant coach Mick Supple. Supple has decided to take an exciting role as the girls academy director for local club team, AUFC Thorns.

“Mick has been an integral part of our Lobo family for a really long time, and while I am excited to see her explore her other passions, it is also really hard to see her leave our program,” Dyche said. “She has given so much to New Mexico Soccer and is a massive part of our recent success. I feel really fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with her these past few years and am excited to see what the future holds for her. Mick is a sister to me, and always has a home here.”

A native of Albuquerque, Supple completed two seasons as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Lobos. In the past two seasons, Supple has helped lead the Lobos to three Mountain West Conference titles. She focused mainly on goalkeepers while an assistant coach, helping lead Emily Johnson to All-Mountain West First Team for the 2020 and 2021 seasons and United Soccer Coaches All-Pacific Region Third Team in 2021, becoming only the second New Mexico goalkeeper to make that list in program history. Supple also pushed Johnson towards record numbers as Johnson earned second-most career wins (42), fourth-most saves (274), fifth-best goals against average percentage (1.24) and sixth-most shutouts (14) in program history by the end of her collegiate career. Prior to her promotion, Supple was the program’s director of operations for three seasons.

Growing up in the area, Supple was a standout player for Albuquerque Academy, leading the team to five-straight New Mexico 4-A State Championships from 2008-2012. She then played collegiately at Arkansas State University, before transitioning to coaching after a few injuries early on in her collegiate career. In addition to her time as a student-athlete and student assistant coach, Supple excelled in the classroom graduating with an unblemished 4.0 GPA in exercise science from Arkansas State.
