Swimming & Diving Head North for Road Meet at CSU Pueblo
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico swimming and diving team will be heading to Pueblo, Colorado to take on CSU Pueblo in the teams’ first full meet of the season. UNM has taken part and won a relay meet 16-8 over Adams State. UNM is coming off its Cherry/Silver exhibition last Friday.
The Lobo squad will be looking for a competitive day in the pool both racing and diving. The Lobos showed well in the diving tank last Friday as Hannah Tiendas led the way with wins in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. Tiah Barrow was narrowly edged in the 3-meter, as Tiendas snuck past her 133.05 to 132.75. Kristen Hepfer was third. In the 1-meter, Tiendas and Barrow were 1-2 again in the 1-meter, with Jocelyn Gallais a very close third.
In the pool, UNM will need to get some big results from their usual suspects. Mary Aoki picked up two wins on Friday (in the 200-yard individual medley and the 200-yard breaststroke) and Olivia Bishop had two as well (in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle). UNM also had Aoki and Bishop win a third race as part of relays. UNM also got wins from Katy McCarter, Kailey Turner and Brynn Quintana.
