Lobos Open Play at Molly Collegiate Invitational

by Steve Kirkland

SEASIDE, Calif. – The New Mexico women’s golf team is in sixth place after the opening day of the Molly Collegiate Invitational at the Bayonet Golf Course. The Lobos shot rounds of 302 and 309 in difficult conditions on Monday to head into the final round at 35-over.

San Jose State and UCLA are the 36-hole co-leaders at 15-over, while Stanford (21-over), Oregon State (23-over) and Cal (25-over) round out the top five.

“The Bayonet will punish you if you let it, and we let it,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “We made too many rookie mistakes with wedges in our hands. Lisa-Marie and Myah played steady for us and we will need to bring our good short game tomorrow.”

Freshman Lisa-Marie Pagliano was the low Lobo on Monday, shooting rounds of 76 and 74 to finish the day T-10th on the individual leaderboard at 6-over. Myah McDonald is also in the top 20, posting rounds of 76 and 75 to sit T-16th at 7-over. Jenny Lertsadwattana is 9-over, Lauren Lehigh is 13-over and Caroline Jansson is 18-over after the first two rounds of play.

The final round of the tournament will be Tuesday with live scoring available on Golfstat.com.
