Samantha Fohrman Signs with Lobos

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The University of New Mexico pitching group became stronger with the addition of right-hander Samantha Fohrman on Friday.

A transfer from Georgian Court, Fohrman recently was named the CACC Pitcher of the Year and CACC First Team after earning CACC Pitcher of the Week four times during the 2021 season.

“I am excited to welcome Samantha to our Lobo softball family,” stated UNM head softball coach Paula Congleton. “She’s coming in with experience and a proven record in the circle. Samantha’s a fierce competitor who will certainly have an immediate impact on our success this year.”

Fohrman recorded 145 strikeouts over 108.2 innings to lead the CACC and struck out 10 or more batters on five different occasions in her sophomore season, with a season-best 15. In three different appearances pitching 4.0 or more innings, Fohrman allowed just one hit, and pitched two complete games without giving up a run.

From Cottage Grove, Minn., Fohrman went 14-2 in 2021 with a 1.67 ERA, appearing in 28 games with 20 starts, 11 complete games and four shutouts. Opponents batted just .185 against her.

Fohrman made drastic improvement from her freshman to her sophomore season, recording a 4.76 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 39.2 innings in nine appearances and six starts.

The addition of Fohrman marks the second pitcher to join the Lobos in the last two months, joined by Amber Linton in June, and the third overall pitcher in the class with freshman McKenna Kostyszyn.
