UNM Marketing Hires Patterson, Promotes Frazier

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The marketing department at The University of New Mexico is taking shape as Drew Patterson joins the Lobos as assistant director of marketing and Stanley Frazier, Jr. has been promoted to assistant athletic director of marketing and revenue generation.

“Our external staff is coming together,” said Associate A.D. for Marketing and Communications Joe Thuente. “Stanley was a huge part of our efforts during the pandemic and has earned this promotion. Drew has a great background as the main guy at Samford and will bring solid experience to our team.

“Between Stanley, Drew and Corie Apodaca, I am looking forward to great things from our marketing staff this year.”

Frazier joined UNM Athletics as assistant athletic director for marketing specifically for football in September of 2019. During his time at UNM, he oversaw all facets of the marketing development and plans for Lobo football, as well as several other sports.

In his new role, Frazier will serve as the department head for marketing. Frazier will oversee Patterson as well as Corie Apodaca, who recently joined the Lobos. Patterson will handle the marketing efforts of soccer, baseball, a secondary to men’s basketball and the football Howl Zone.

“I think we have two great new additions to marketing, Corie and Drew,” stated Frazier. “I’m looking forward to getting started with them both and I’m very excited for what we can continue to build here at UNM.

“I appreciate the support I’ve been given by Eddie Nuñez and our administration over the last two years. I want to thank our administration for trusting me with this role.”

Patterson joins UNM after serving as the marketing and social media coordinator at the Citadel during the 2020 season. He was responsible for the development, planning, coordination, and implementation of all marketing and promotional efforts, as well as responsible for growing the online social media presence of the Department of Athletics and the teams.

Prior to The Citadel, he was the director of marketing and fan engagement at Samford University, where he was responsible for coordinating all facets of marketing and promotions for the athletic department.

Part of his tasks included developing and implementing marketing plans, game scripts, and special promotions, as well as oversaw the group sales program for all ticketed sports. He was instrumental in the selling of tickets for The Guardian Credit Union FCS Kickoff between Samford and Youngstown State, which was the first college football game on ESPN during college football’s 150th season in 2019.

He was also a part of record-breaking attendance records for the 2018 and 2019 seasons for football, as well as the 2018-2019 season for men’s basketball.

A graduate from Samford, Patterson received his B.S. in sport administration with a minor in marketing in 2017. He was on the track and field team at Samford as a multi-event athlete from 2013 to 2017, accomplishing the following accolades: all-freshmen team in indoor and outdoor conference championships, two-time outdoor Southern Conference champion in 2014 and 2015, and all-conference at the Southern Conference Indoor Championship, placing third in the heptathlon in February 2016. In addition to being a student-athlete, Patterson was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
