NORMAN, Okla. — Junior Sam Choi of The University of New Mexico men’s golf team has been named NCAA Division I PING All-American Honorable Mention following an outstanding season that included tying for first place at the 2021 Mountain West Championship while leading the Lobos to the 2021 Mountain West title.

Choi, who earned his second GCAA PING Division I All-Region honor in June, is currently ranked No. 29 in the nation as an individual by GolfStat with an adjusted scoring average of 71.36 strokes per round.

In addition, Choi claimed a spot on the 2021 All-Mountain West Team after leading the Lobos in five of their eight competitions on the season while posting three top-five finishes. He racked up four top-10 finishes on the season and six of his eight performances were in the top 20 of the field.

Choi finished the season with a 70.83 average over 24 rounds with a low round of 66 at the Mountain West Tournament and also posted a team-most 22 counted rounds on the season.

Choi marks the first Lobo since 2017 to earn All-American Honorable Mention status (Andrej Bevins) and the 48th Lobo since 1962 to be named to any of the non-academic All-American Teams.
