Lobos Add Linton for 2022

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The pitching staff added Power Five experience as University of New Mexico head softball coach Paula Congleton and staff signed right-hander Amber Linton to the 2022 roster.

“I chose UNM because I felt that the coaching staff showed belief in me and my potential like no one else had,” Linton commented. “Along with this, the UNM softball program is on the rise and I see so much potential for where this program could go.

“This is somewhere that I want to leave a legacy and make UNM softball a force to be reckoned with, not only in the Mountain West Conference, but in the postseason tournament as well.”

From Indiana University, Linton appeared in 19 games with four starts and threw a total of 44.1 innings for the Hoosiers. As a freshman, she carried a 5-2 record and a 4.87 ERA, including a win over NCAA Tournament team Minnesota in which she allowed just one hit and no runs with two strikeouts in 4.0 innings in the circle. In addition, her innings pitched and appearances were the second highest on the IU pitching staff.

The Franklin, Ind., native recorded 21 strikeouts with season-high three strikeouts in consecutive games against Wisconsin and Minnesota last season. Linton threw a season-high 5.2 innings against No. 25 Michigan, allowing just one run in the relief outing.

Prior to her season at Indiana, Linton was an all-academic state in both softball and cross country, made all-conference and all-county every season and all-state in 2019 at Roncalli High School. She led Roncalli to the conference championship three seasons during her high school career and to a county title in 2018.

In the circle, Linton posted a 1.47 ERA during her junior season with 94 strikeouts and a 1.60 ERA and 98 strikeouts her sophomore year.

Linton intends to major in accounting at UNM.
