Lobo Volleyball to Hold Summer Camps
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The University of New Mexico head volleyball coach Jon Newman-Gonchar and coaching staff invites volleyball players to participate in the Lobo volleyball camps this summer with an opportunity to learn from and interact with members of the volleyball team and staff.
The 2021 Lobo Summer Volleyball Camps will consist of six different sessions and offer an opportunity for players to receive valuable instruction on the fundamental skills of volleyball as well as be made aware of the characteristics that define successful players. Organized games between campers will provide a competitive outlet after specific drills have been practiced. Contests built into drills capture the learner’s attention, which results in attentive practice.
In addition, drill progressions will be aimed towards recognizing and developing good habits in all aspects of the game. General courtesy, respect for teammates and opponents, and the importance of hard work will be taught to the campers through example by the Lobo camp counselors and coaches.
The camps will have some restrictions to continue to follow the guidelines and safety protocols of the state of New Mexico.
College Prep Camp starts off the summer sessions on June 25 and is open to campers entering the 9th-12th grades and recommended for girls and boys who want a full six-hour day of training over the fundamental skills of volleyball. Players of all levels can learn and improve their skills in small groups in a high-repetition environment and gain confidence in competitive game play. The coaching staff stresses individual and team play, while providing training in the fundamentals of serving, passing, setting, hitting, defense and court coverage.
All Skills Camp will take place from July 20-22 and offered to youth entering 5th through 12th grade in the fall of 2021.
