Three Lobos Compete in Day Two of NCAA West Regionals, Holmes Advances in Two Events

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Three athletes of The University of New Mexico track and field team competed today in the NCAA West Regionals. Tianna Holmes led the pack, qualifying for the quarterfinal round in both the women’s 200m and 400m dash. 

Holmes ran a personal best in the 200m, crossing the line in 23.12 seconds. This earned Holmes a third-place finish in her heat and a 17th place finish overall. Also qualifying for the quarterfinal round in the 400m, Holmes earned her spot by running a 53.21 for a 20th place finish overall. Holmes will run in the meet’s quarterfinals on Saturday at 6:20 (400) and 7:10 (200m) p.m. MT.

Steffi Jones ran in the women’s 1,500m run, finishing at a time of 4:28.54 and in eighth place in her heat and in 32nd place overall. In the women’s 10k was Hannah Miller, who ran a 36:50.44, finishing in 38th place overall.

Tomorrow, Abdirizak Ibrahim (5,000m, 7:30 p.m. MT), Aidan Quinn (triple jump, 2:15 p.m. MT), and Awet Yohannes (3,000m Steeplechase, 5:10 p.m. MT) will compete in their respective events. For direct links to keep up with tomorrow’s events, visit the Track and Field schedule page.
