Lobos Host Spartans in Final Home Series

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.– The University of New Mexico enters its final home series of the season starting on Saturday, May 8 as the Lobos welcome San José State. In addition, Sunday’s game will mark UNM’s Senior Day with the Lobos set to recognize Cameryn O’Grady, Lauren Wilmert, Kiana Spencer and Bailey Klitzke.

The three-game series starts with a Saturday doubleheader at 2 p.m. MT. The second game will take place 30 minutes following the conclusion on game one with the third game set for Sunday at noon.

All games will be streamed on the Mountain West Network but tickets are still available for those that would like to attend in person.

A LOOK BACK BEFORE LOOKING AHEAD
The Lobos were swept by San Diego State on the road after losing the lead late in game two and losing 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs. The top of the Lobo lineup led the way in the series, with Andrea Howard accounting for three of the runs in game two and Rachael Hathoot accounting for the other. Cameryn O’Grady led with three hits, including one double, and Reyan Tuck, Howard, Izabella Owen and Peyton Robinson each had two hits in the series. O’Grady, Tuck, Lauren Wilmert and Briana Martinez all tallied doubles with Howard hitting a triple to account for all the extra-base hits on the weekend. O’Grady also led in walks (two), batting average (.375) and on-base percentage (.500) and tied with Tuck and Howard in slugging percentage (.500). In the circle, Emma Guindon started two games, throwing complete games in both, with Ashlyn Roberts starting the other game. In game two, UNM used four pitchers.
IT’S SO HARD TO SAY GOODBYE
This weekend, the Lobos will celebrate four seniors in Cameryn O’Grady, Kiana Spencer, Lauren Wilmert and Bailey Klitzke (Klitzke opted out of the 2021 season). O’Grady and Wilmert have played five years at UNM with Spencer three years and Klitzke two years. Saturday’s second game will mark O’Grady’s 200th game played at UNM and she enters the series with 190 career starts.

CAM’S GOT THE POWER
Cameryn O’Grady leads the team in batting average (.308), slugging percentage (.607), on-base percentage (.436), runs scored (26), home runs (seven), hit-by-pitches (11) and total bases (65). She is tied with Andrea Howard in hits (33) and triples (two) for the team high in the categories and with Howard and Rachael Hathoot in doubles (seven), and second in RBI (23) and walks (14).

In Mountain West games this year, O’Grady leads in on-base percentage (.492) and walks (12) and fourth in slugging percentage (.780). O’Grady is also tied for fourth in home runs (five) and RBI with 17, tied for sixth in total bases (39) and seventh in runs scored (14). In all games, O’Grady is third in slugging percentage and on-base percentage, tied for sixth in total bases, triples and runs scored and tied for second in hit-by-pitches. In the field, O’Grady is second with 77 assists in all games and is tied for fourth in MW games with 37.

HATHOOT CAN HACK
Rachael Hathoot has seven doubles on the season, tied for the team lead, is third in RBI (12) and total bases (33), fourth in slugging percentage (.289) and runs scored (11), and fifth in hits (20). The Albuquerque native also leads in stolen bases with seven on the season. Hathoot is 5-for-7 with runners on third and less than two outs and 22-for-57 (.386) in successfully advancing runners.

The infielder has been featured in several different spots in the Lobo lineup throughout the season. Hathoot has led off in eight games, hit third in three games, fourth in 21 games, fifth in six games and sixth in two games. Currently hitting in the cleanup spot, Hathoot is hitting .203 with 12 hits, five doubles, two home runs, 11 RBI and a slugging percentage of .390.

In just Mountain West games, Hathoot is tied for second in the conference in doubles (five).

SCOUTING SAN JOSÉ STATE
The Spartans have played just 26 games this season with 12 conference games, and enter the series 8-18 overall and 4-8 in the Mountain West. In their most recent series, the Spartans swept Utah State, and on the year, went 1-2 against San Diego State, and 0-3 against Boise State and Fresno State. SJSU forfeited its series with Nevada and UNLV at the end of March.
Alyssa Graham leads San José State at the plate with a batting average of .294, 20 hits and 25 total bases. Janessa Lozano leads in slugging percentage at .429 and on-base percentage at .403. Lozano is tied with Jocylyn Vidal in home runs with two, while Vidal, Graham and Jillian Figueroa are all tied for the team high in doubles with three. Malia Luna has a team-high two triples and Vidal leads with nine RBI. The Spartans are 9-13 in stolen bases with Figueroa 3-3 and Lozano 2-2.

In the circle, SJSU has used five pitchers, led by Caroline Bowman, who has started a team-high 15 games and thrown in a team-high 19 games, with five complete games. A RHP, Bowman has a 5.96 ERA with 74 innings thrown, 122 hits, 76 runs (63 earned), 38 strikeouts and 18 walks. Jenessa Ullegue has pitched in 17 games with 10 starts and four complete games. The RHP carries a 3.85 ERA with 71.0 innings pitched, 92 hits, 45 runs (39 earned), seven walks and 23 strikeouts. Vidal has pitched 12.2 innings in six games and allowed 13 hits, 14 runs (eight earned), with 13 walks and three strikeouts for a 4.42 ERA. Jackie Rookaird has thrown 4.1 innings in three games with one start and has allowed 11 hits, 15 runs (12 earned) and eight walks. As a pitching staff, San José State has a 5.44 ERA.
