UNM Heads to UNLV for Three-Game Series Starting Saturday

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.– The University of New Mexico Lobos travel to Las Vegas, Nev. for a three-game series against UNLV starting with a doubleheader on Saturday.

The first game is scheduled for 2 p.m. MT with the second game to follow at 4:30 p.m. MT, and Sunday’s game scheduled for 1 p.m. MT. All games will be streamed on the Mountain West Network.

UNM is coming off a three-game series against Nevada, winning the first game in five innings, 12-4, before narrowly falling in the second game, 8-7 and dropping the third game, 7-0.

GOOD THINGS COME IN THREES
The Lobos have three players with three-game hitting streaks in Lauren Wilmert, Cameryn O’Grady and Rachael Hathoot and six players with a three-game streak of reaching base with Andrea Howard, Briana Martinez, Reyan Tuck joining O’Grady, Wilmert and Hathoot.

ALL HAIL THE DOUBLES QUEEN
With a double in the top of the fourth inning in the March 28 game against Colorado State, senior shortstop Cameryn O’Grady took one step closer to officially being crowned the all-time leader in UNM program history. O’Grady currently ties the program record for career doubles at 48, a record held by Marianna Fenello, who played from 1998-01. O’Grady started the season tied for fourth with 43 and has five this season after finishing the shortened 2020 season with 15, the 2019 season with 16 and the 2018 season with 12.

THE RETURN OF HOME RUN HOWARD

Home run Howard made an early appearance this year as senior Andrea Howard hit a home run in three of the six games in the opening weekend, with her first home run coming in the second game of the season against No. 4 Arizona in the top of the third to tie the game at one. Her second home run came in her first at-bat in the next game against Southern Utah, and the third home run was a 2-run home run that tied the game in the bottom of the first against Seattle. Howard hit her fourth home run of the season in the first game at Texas Tech, a two-run home run in the top of the first, leading the team with two RBI in the game. Her fifth home run came on March 28, a two-run home run in the top of the first on a 3-0 pitch and her
sixth home run came in the Nevada series, a no-doubter over the bleachers in right in the third inning of the second game that put UNM in front 3-2.

The senior leads the team with her six home runs, with Cameryn O’Grady accounting for five home runs and Rachael Hathoot, Taryn Young, Briana Martinez with the other home runs on the team.

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE
Beyond just hitting home runs, Howard enters the series with seven multiple hit games and seven multiple RBI games to lead the team in both categories.  The outfielder also leads the team in batting average (.325), slugging percentage (.639), on-base percentage (.418), RBI (21), walks (13), doubles (six), total bases (53), home runs (six) and hits (27). The Albuquerque native is second in runs scored (11) and is one of four players with a triple on the season. Howard is second in the Mountain West in slugging percentage, fourth in total bases, tied for fifth in
home runs and doubles, seventh in on-base percentage, eighth in RBI and tied for eighth in walks.

GOING WITH GUINDON
•Newcomer Emma Guindon leads the team in appearances (20), games started (19) and innings pitched (89.2) and has thrown seven complete games. The junior
has a 6.48 ERA and team-high 31 strikeouts with 13 looking. Guindon is responsible for the win over Southern Utah, pitching 5.0 innings and allowed three runs on six hits, striking out four batters, and for the Nevada win, throwing a complete game and striking out three in five innings. The RHP leads the Mountain West in games started and tied for second in appearances, and is fourth in innings pitched.

SCOUTING UNLV
The Rebels are 19-9 overall, 8-1 in conference, with their only conference loss coming in a 7-6 (10 innings) to San Diego State. UNLV has won its last four games, and outscored Utah State 29-2 in its last series. The Rebels swept Boise State to start conference play. UNLV shares two common non-conference opponents with UNM in Southern Utah and Seattle. The Rebels defeated Southern Utah 10-2 (5) and 13-5 (5) and split with Seattle (lost 4-1, won 8-7).

Maddie Schmidt leads the Rebels in hits (33), batting average (.359) and triples (two), and is one of four players to start all 28 games. Denise Armendariz leads with 11 doubles and Samantha Diaz leads with eight home runs and 49 total bases. Justine Federe holds a team-high .623 slugging percentage and 13 walks with Armendariz having a team-high .439 slugging percentage. UNLV has six players with 20 or more hits on the season. On the base paths, Lauren Tycksen is 15-for-16 and Schmidt is 11-for-12, with the team 32-for-35 on the year.

In the circle, UNLV has used five pitchers this season, led by Jenny Bressler. Bressler has thrown 93.0 innings, with seven complete games in 15 starts and has made 20 appearances. The RHP also has thrown three shutouts and earned two saves. Additionally, she has allowed 28 runs with 26 earned on 70 hits, registering 37 walks and 102 strikeouts and carries a 1.96 ERA. Charlie Masterson has pitched 48.0 innings with 12 appearances, 10 starts, three complete games and two shutouts and has a 2.92 ERA. Masterson, a RHP, has allowed 26 runs, 20 earned, with 54 hits, nine walks and 29 strikeouts. Jenna Perez has thrown 25.1 innings with 16 runs (all earned), 20 walks and 32 strikeouts and has appeared in 11 games with two starts and one complete game and one save. Jasmine Martin has appeared in four games with one start, throwing 9.0 inning and giving up five runs (all earned) on 14 hits. Martin has a 3.89 ERA with six walks and 10 strikeouts. Kaylie Northrop has appeared in five games and 9.1 innings, allowing 16 runs on 16 hits, striking out nine and walking 12.  As a staff, the Rebels have an ERA of 3.11 with 91 runs allowed (82 earned) on 173 hits, striking out 182 and walking 84.

UNLV is second in the MW in batting average, slugging percentage, runs scored, home runs and hits, and third in on-base percentage and RBI.
