Lobos Fall for the First Time This Season to Utah State

LOGAN, Utah — The University of New Mexico women’s soccer team was on a five-game winning streak but dropped a game for the first time this season to Utah State, losing 0-1. The Lobos (5-1, 5-1 MW) continued to apply offensive pressure on the Aggies (2-4, 2-4 MW) through the entirety of the 90 minutes, posting 20 shots, 12 being on goal, but it was not enough to get on the board.

Redshirt-junior Cami Floth led the Lobos offensively, posting a total of four shots, three of them being on goal. Freshman Brynn Boeyink saw a career-high two shots on goal in the game but could not find her way to the back of the net. Every player that took a shot in the game (7) posted at least one shot on goal.

The game was scoreless until the 53rd minute of the match when Utah State scored on a corner kick. The ball was played to the near post and was headed into the goal on the near side by USU’s Imelda Williams.

Despite allowing one goal, redshirt-senior Emily Johnson saw a total of six saves on the day, one in each half, facing a season-high 16 shots, seven on goal. Prior to today, Johnson had not allowed a goal since March 5.

The Lobos will remain on the road to face Air Force on April 2 in Colorado Springs, Colo. The game will take place at 1 p.m. Live stats, and a live stream will be available for fans to follow along.
