Lertsadwattana, Lehigh Lead Lobos Through Round One

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Sophomore Napat “Jenny” Lertsadwattana of The University of New Mexico women’s golf team is tied for 14th in a field of 84 with an even score of 72 through the first round at the PING/ASU Invitational on Friday.

Lersadwattana leads UNM, which sits 12th overall with a score of +9, just six strokes out of a tie for third place.

“We made a lot of birdies today. Our par-3 play needs to improve for tomorrow’s round and I know we can move up the leaderboard,” head coach Jill Trujillo said.

Despite the low spot in par-3 scoring (3.40, +8), the Lobos are tied for first in par-5 scoring, averaging 4.70 strokes (-6). UNM is also fourth in birdies with 15.

Sophomore Lauren Lehigh is just one over through one round (73), tied for 26th. She is followed by senior Caroline Jansson who is tied for 47th (75, +3) and freshman Myah McDonald tied for 63rd (77, +5).

Lehigh ranks tied for third overall in par-5 scoring (4.25, -3), and tied for second overall in birdies with five.

Redshirt-senior Reva Morris rounds out the lineup with a 79 (+7) in round one.

Junior Serena Chon is also competing in the tournament. She shot an 80 (+8) as an individual.

The Lobos are set to return to action on Saturday at 8 a.m. PT (9 a.m. MT) on hole 10.
