Department Turns In Third-Best GPA in History for Fall, 2020

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — In a Fall season like no other, UNM’s student-athletes continued to showcase their wares in the classroom.  Lobo student-athletes recorded a 3.34 GPA, which tied for the third-best grade point average in the history of the program.  The top three GPAs in program history have all occurred in the last three semesters.

It marked the 25th straight semester that Lobo student-athletes turned in at least a 3.0 GPA, dating back to the fall of 2008.

Additionally, UNM’s female student-athletes turned in a 3.59 GPA, tying for the second-highest mark in school history and the 21st straight semester with at least a 3.4 GPA.  UNM’s male student-athletes had a 3.09 GPA, the 18th semester in the last 19 with at least a 3.0 GPA.

Among individual programs, the women’s tennis team turned in the highest-GPA by any program in the history of Lobo Athletics with a 4.03 GPA.  It marked the just the fourth 4.0 GPA in school history, and it keeps a remarkable string under coach Vicky Maes, as the program recorded a 3.98 and a 3.99 in the previous two semesters.  Three other women’s programs, golf, soccer and volleyball, all turned in top-five program GPAs.

On the men’s side, Lobo baseball recorded a 3.32, tying for the best GPA in program history.  Men’s golf also recorded a 3.73 GPA, the top mark among all men’s sports and the third-best in the history of their sport.

“I’m continually amazed by the hard work and resiliency of our student-athletes,” said Director of Athletics Eddie Nuñez. “They have been able to focus on their academics and live up to the student-athlete name.”
