Lobo Women's Golf Releases Spring 2021 Schedule
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — After 321 days with no competition, the University of New Mexico women’s golf team is back in action with a Spring 2021 scheduled to tee off on Saturday, Feb. 8 in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. The Lobos released their schedule Monday that includes six contests through the conference tournament in April.
New Mexico will start at the Lamkin Invitational hosted by San Diego State and will compete at several familiar competitions including the Rebel/Beach (2/15-16), the Bruin Wave Invitational (3/1-3), the Arizona Wildcat Invitational (3/8-9) and the PING/ASU Invitational (3/26-28) before competing at the Mountain West Championships on April 20-21.
Depending on COVID-19 regulations in the State of New Mexico as the season progresses, the Lobos hope to host the annual Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque in April as well.
The Lobos return nine players from last year’s roster including 2019-20 Mountain West Freshman of the Year, Napat “Jenny” Lertsadwattana, who led UNM with a scoring average of 74.05 strokes per round.
New Mexico also returns five upperclassmen in redshirt-senior Reva Morris, senior Caroline Jansson, senior Serena Chon as well as juniors Kamie Hamada and Tiana Cruz. The experienced roster will also see sophomores Chloé Lauer, Lauren Lehigh and Alice Rindestig return.
Morris finished second on the team in 2018-19, competing in all 30 rounds, but sat out the 2019-20 season due to injury.
Lertsadwattana was one of three Lobos to compete in all 21 rounds for the Lobos last season before it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She was joined by Jansson, who averaged 75.43 strokes per round, and Lehigh, who carded 76.33. It was Jansson who registered the lowest score of the season, a 68, followed by Cruz who posted a season-low 70, and three other Lobos that shot a 71 at least once on the season (Lertsadwattana, Lehigh, Hamada).
UNM has added one newcomer to the 2020-21 roster, Myah McDonald, who is a true freshman from Kaneohe, Hawaii.
The Lobos will tee off on Feb. 8 at the Lamkin Invitational hosted by San Diego State in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.
