Lobos Add West Mesa's Medina for 2020-21

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team is adding its third New Mexico native to the 2020-21 roster as Eloy Medina will join the squad, the program announced Tuesday. Medina is a 2020 graduate of West Mesa High School in Albuquerque.

“Eloy is a talented young man with a tremendous passion for being a Lobo,” head coach Paul Weir said. “His shooting ability stands out but his character and reputation are impeccable. We are ecstatic to have him join the fold.”

Medina finished his high school career averaging 20.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. He is a four-time First Team All-District honoree and has also been named to the All-Metro Third Team.

The Albuquerque native also shined in the classroom as he collected Academic All-District honors and achieved the AVID Honor Roll for having a grade point average between 3.5 and 3.9.

He also competed for club teams NM Slam and PB Nation where he helped his squad to a national championship.

“I chose UNM because Coach Weir and staff have given me the opportunity to get a great education and compete at the highest level in my hometown as a Lobo,” Medina said.
