Lobos Lead MW in Scholar-Athletes for Ninth Straight Year
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —For the ninth consecutive year, The University of New Mexico topped the conference as the Mountain West released the 2019-20 Scholar-Athlete teams, and UNM led the league with 126. It also marked the eighth straight year that UNM had over 100 honorees.
The MW Scholar-Athlete award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in a Mountain West-sponsored sport.
Six different programs either led the league or tied for the league lead within their respective sports. Men’s golf, men’s tennis, women’s cross country, women’s golf and women’s soccer all led the league in their respective sports. Men’s cross country and volleyball both tied for second while baseball and swimming and diving were third.
