Men's Golf Earns GCAA Presidents Special Recognition

NORMAN, Okla. — The University of New Mexico men’s golf team has been named a recipient of the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Presidents Special Recognition for posting a GPA of 3.5 or higher for the 2019-20 school year.

The Lobos finished the 2019-20 school year with a 3.69 GPA after posting a 3.80 team GPA in the Spring 2020 semester, marking the second-best, single-semester GPA in UNM men’s golf program history.

The honor comes to the team not long after five Lobos were named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars including senior Sam Dickey, redshirt-junior Ross Sinclair, junior Galven Green and sophomores Sam Choi and Ignacio Arcaya.

The Lobos posted an outstanding, but unexpectedly short, 2019-20 campaign in which they claimed the 2019 William H. Tucker Intercollegiate title and were ranked as high as 30th in the nation as defending Mountain West Champions.

UNM was one of just 95 programs across all collegiate divisions to earn the Presidents Special Recognition, 56 in NCAA Division I. It was the Kentucky Wildcats that finished with the top overall GPA (3.89).

The Lobos were the only Mountain West program to make the list of 3.5 GPA or higher, but five other MW programs earned All-Academic Team status with a GPA of 3.0 or better including Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San José State and Wyoming.
