Maluach Named to 2019-20 NABC Honors Court

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Rising senior Makuach Maluach of The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court following an outstanding season both on the court and in the classroom during 2019-20.

To be eligible for the NABC Honors Court, a student-athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria including an academic classification as a junior or senior, a GPA of 3.2 or higher and have matriculated at least one year at their current institution.

The honor marks the first for Maluach as he became eligible in 2019-20 as a junior.

Maluach wrapped up the 2019-20 season averaging 9.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 0.8 steals per game in 27.1 minutes per contest. He started all 33 games for the Lobos in his junior campaign, extending his consecutive start streak to 56 straight games.

This season, Maluach accumulated 16 double-digit scoring games including a season-best 22 points in the opening round of the 2020 Mountain West Tournament against San José State. He enters his senior season just 41 points short of 1,000 career points which would make him just the 35th Lobo to achieve the feat in program history.

Maluach is one of just 10 Mountain West men’s basketball student-athletes to be named to the prestigious list.
