Six Lobos Named WGCA All-American Scholar

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team continues its streak of outstanding academic successes as six Lobos were named Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars for the 2019-20 academic year. OFFICIAL WGCA ALL-AMERICAN SCHOLAR RELEASE

A total of 1,401 women’s collegiate golfers were recognized with the honor for the 2019-20 academic year. The criteria for selection to the All-America Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics, including a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50.

The All-American Scholar honors come after the Lobos posted a new program-record GPA of 4.01 as a team for Spring 2020. The lofty grade point average also ties the UNM record across all programs for a single semester.

The squad was led this season by Lertsadwattana who was named Mountain West Freshman of the Year in her inaugural season. She marks the first MW Freshman of the Year honoree since former Lobo Jodi Ewart earned the award in 2006-07. Lertsadwattana led UNM with 74.05 strokes per round and was the highest-ranked freshman golfer in the Mountain West on the season. She registered three top-15 finishes in 2019-20 before the season was unexpectedly cut short.

All six All-America Scholar honorees finished the season with a 77 or below stroke average on the season.
