Lobos Add Guindon to 2020 Signing Class
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—The University of New Mexico softball program has completed its 2020 signing class with the addition of transfer pitcher Emma Guindon, who has the ability to hit and play in the field when not in the circle.
“As a coaching staff, we are thrilled that Emma has found her home at UNM,” Lobo head coach Paula Congleton said. “We feel that she will have an immediate impact in the circle and that is very exciting.”
Guindon, standing at 5-9, is from Tomball, Texas, and started her collegiate career at Houston Baptist. With the Huskies, the right-hander completed a 9-7 record as a freshman with 93 strikeouts in 133.1 innings. She tossed a season-high 10 strikeouts in 4.0 innings against Jackson State while also not allowing a hit and giving up just one walk to register her first collegiate win. Guindon threw another no-hitter against Incarnate Word in 4.0 innings in the circle, striking out four while again allowing just one walk.
At the plate, the newest Lobo recorded four hits, one going for a double, and reached base four times via a walk.
She also was selected as the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week after pitching two shutout wins, striking out 13 hitters and holding opponents to .133 to open conference competition in 2019.
For her sophomore season, Guindon transferred to Monterey Peninsula College in California, where she was off to a strong start before the season was cut short due to the coronavirus. Playing for a team also named the Lobos, Guindon finished with a 4-1 record and struck out 48 batters in 31 innings of work, finishing with a 0.66 ERA. At the plate, she posted a batting average of .381.
In a recent interview with the Monterey Herald, Guindon stated, “I love the drive that the coaches at New Mexico have, the goals they have in mind… When there is a common goal to fight and push, I thrive under that mentality.”
She reiterated that as to why she chose UNM, saying “I chose UNM because the coaches and I have a common mentality of wanting to dominate every time we’re on the field. I wanted to be a part of a culture that is pushing to be the best, no matter who we face.”
Guindon graduated from Tomball Memorial High School in 2018 where she was district pitcher of the year in 2018, second team all-district in 2016 and 2017 and academic all-district from 2016-18.
At UNM, she plans to major in psychology.
Guindon is the fourth softball signee this class for Congleton and staff, joining Savana Martinez, Talia Hannappel and Diamond Sandoval, who all signed in November.
