Lersadwattana Leads Lobos Through Final Round

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team concluded the Gunrock Invitational in eighth place overall on Tuesday at the Del Paso Country Club hosted by UC Davis. Through all three rounds of competition, Napat “Jenny” Lertsadwattana tied for 11th overall to lead the Lobos with a final score of 225 (+9).

ROUNDS 1 & 2 RESULTS

Lertsadwattana shot a 76 in the first round followed by a 78 (+6) in round two before carding a seven-stroke improvement in round three to finish one under, 71. Overall, she finished tied for 11th on the leaderboard, 10 strokes behind individual champion Katherine Zhu from Cal. Lertsadwattana also tied for ninth in par-4 scoring with an average of 4.21 (+5) in the category while registering the fifth-most pars in the competition (37).

Finishing second for the Lobos was junior Caroline Jansson who tied for 40th overall out of 72 competitors. She continued to improve throughout all three rounds carding an 85 (+13), a 79 (+7) and a 75 (+3) in rounds one, two and three, respectively. Jansson finished with a two-day total of 239 (+23).

After carding a hole-in-one in round one, junior Serena Chon registered an 11-stoke improvement between rounds two (85, +13) and three (74, +2) to finish with a final score of 240 (+24). Chon tied for 43rd overall.

Rounding out the competition for the Lobos was freshman Lauren Lehigh and sophomore Kamie Hamada. Lehigh, who finished both rounds one and three with a score of 80 (+8) concluded the final day with another 80 for a final score of 241 (+25). Hamada wrapped up the tournament 10 strokes behind with a with a final score of 251 (+35).

As a team, the Lobos finished the invitational eighth with a final team score of 943 (+79). The Lobos registered 138 total pars and one-of-two eagles over the two days of competition. After three rounds, Cal took first with an 887 (+23), followed by Sacramento State in second (897, +33) and Wisconsin in third (906, +42).

The Lobos will be back in action on Monday, March 9 through Tuesday, March 10 for the Arizona Wildcat Invitational hosted by Arizona at the Sewailo Golf Club in Tucson.
