O'Grady Named MW Player of the Week

MW RELEASE
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—
University of New Mexico senior shortstop Cameryn O’Grady has been named the Mountain West Player of the Week as announced by the conference on Tuesday.

O’Grady is the first Lobo to win a conference weekly honor since Tess McPherson won MW Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 14, 2017 and the first to win MW Player of the Week since Chelsea Johnson was selected on April 19, 2016.

The selection comes after O’Grady hit .556 at the Lobo Classic and led the Lobos with 10 hits, 17 total bases, 10 RBI, as well as with a .944 slugging percentage and a .609 on-base percentage. She also drew three walks, hit four doubles, a home run and her first career sacrifice fly on the weekend.

Hitting in the leadoff spot for all six games, O’Grady recorded multiple hits in four of the six games played, including going 3-for-4 in the opening game against La Salle on Feb. 28, recording three runs batted in. She went 2-for-2 at the plate in the second game against La Salle with a grand slam in the third inning on a 3-2 pitch to give UNM an 8-1 lead as well as reached base with two walks. It was the first grand slam of the senior’s career, and her second home run of the season.

Of note, O’Grady hit four doubles, giving her a season total of 13. A native of Orange, Calif., O’Grady currently leads the NCAA in doubles and leads the conference in doubles per game with 0.65. In addition, O’Grady leads the Mountain West in on-base percentage with .554.

In her senior season, the UNM shortstop leads the team in batting average (.429), slugging percentage (.768), runs scored (20), hits (24), total bases (43), on-base percentage and doubles, and is second in runs batted in (20) and walks (14).

Furthermore, her 13 doubles passes her season total in 2018 of 12, nearly matches her season total from 2019 of 16 and she is just eight doubles away from tying the single season record for doubles in program history. In her career, O’Grady has 41 doubles, which is tied for fifth in UNM history and is eight shy of setting the program career record.

To date, she has a team-high eight multiple hit games and four multiple RBI games and currently has a streak of nine games reaching base and an overall streak of 117 straight starts at shortstop dating back to Feb. 18, 2018.

Additionally, she is second in batting average, third in the conference in runs scored and slugging percentage, tied for fourth in runs batted in as well as walks and fourth in total bases.

O’Grady and the Lobos travel to Austin, Texas this weekend for the Longhorn Invitational, hosted by the No. 2/3 Texas Longhorns. All five UNM games will be shown on the Longhorn Network.
