Lobos Once Again Cruise in APR Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — For the ninth consecutive year, The University of New Mexico had every sport easily above the mandated 930 mark in the NCAA Academic Progress Rate Institutional Report.  The reports were released publicly by the NCAA.  This year’s report, which is the 2017-18 report, saw eight sports equal or better last year’s four-year rolling score.

Last Wednesday, UNM had two programs; men’s golf, and women’s golf earn public recognition from the NCAA for finishing in the top 10% of all Division I schools in a sport in APR.  APR data for the 2017-18 report is a four-year rolling score that include APR data from 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18.

APR is a combination of eligibility and retention scores.  For each semester, a student-athlete can account for two points, one for returning to school, and one for being eligible.   The total points accumulated is divided by the total points possible, and then multiplied by 1000 to get the raw score.

Five sports recorded perfect 1000s for the 2017-18 academic year.  On the men’s side, golf scored 1000, while cross country, golf, soccer and tennis did likewise for the women.  This is the 13th year of that APR scores have been issued.

One of the keys to UNM’s APR success is the Lobo Center for Student-Athlete Success, which houses UNM’s athletics’ Student Success Managers, who oversee the academic progress of UNM’s student-athletes.  The LCSAS has three complete computer labs, meeting and private study spaces, classroom, and tutoring stations as well as housing UNM’s Student Success Staff.
