Lobos fall at (RV) Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. – The University of New Mexico women’s basketball team hit the road for the final time in the 2019 calendar year on Saturday afternoon as the Lobos took on Arizona State at the Desert Financial Arena. Receiving votes in both national polls, Arizona State worked past UNM by a score of 84-47.

The Lobos (7-4) had eight players score in the game but were held to a season-low 47 points against the Sun Devils (8-2). Jordan Hosey led the Lobos in scoring with nine points. Antonia Anderson and Jayla Everett were next in scoring with eight points each. Ahlise Hurst had six points while Andriana Avent, Jaedyn De La Cerda, Shaiquel McGruder and Aisia Robertson all had four points each to round out Lobo scoring.

Statistically, the Lobos shot 38% overall from the field (22-of-58) while the Sun Devils shot 44% overall from the floor (32-of-73). The 10 more made baskets for the Sun Devils appeared beyond the arc as they were 10-of-31. The Lobos, however, were unable make a three-pointer, marking the first time in 93 games without a three-pointer. The last time the Lobos did not knock down a trifecta came on the road at UNLV on January 11, 2017.

Despite not finding success from three-point range, the Lobos found offense inside and out-scored the Sun Devils in the paint. All but seven of the Lobos’ points came in the paint against the Sun Devils. The Lobos also held an advantage in blocked shots as they blocked six shots compared to just one for the Sun Devils. Anderson led the charge for the Lobos in that category with three.

The Lobos will now turn their attention to a week loaded with home basketball as they are set to play four games in five days beginning this coming Monday night against New Mexico State. The game with the Aggies is scheduled to tip-off at 7 p.m. inside Dreamstyle Arena – The Pit.

Two days later, on Wednesday, the Lobos will play their first game of the annual Lobo Invitational against Providence. On Thursday, the Lobos will take on Loyola Marymount and then wrap up the Lobo Invitational on Friday night against Ball State. All tip-off times for the Lobo Invitational games featuring UNM are scheduled for 7 p.m.
