S&D Head Coach Tierney-Walker Heads to Ohio State

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Dorsey Tierney-Walker, who has served as the head coach for The University of New Mexico’s women’s swimming and diving team since 2016, has announced that she is leaving UNM to take an assistant coaching position with Ohio State.

The move comes after UNM’s swimming and diving program reached unprecedented heights under Tierney-Walker, as the 2018-19 team finished with its highest Mountain West finish, fourth place, in program history.  Adriana Palomino won three races in the championships and became UNM’s first Mountain West “Swimmer of the Meet” Award winner.

Last year, UNM had seven individual athletes and one relay team earn All-Mountain West accolades. UNM also in 2018-19 earned a MW Swimmer of the Week and MW Diver of the Week, marking the first time getting both of those accolades in the same season since the 2012-13 year.

“We appreciate what Dorsey Tierney-Walker has meant to our swimming and diving team, and we thank her and wish her all the best” said director of athletics Eddie Nuñez.  “Our program has improved under her watch every year, and now we will conduct a national search to hire a coach that can help us take that next step and compete for a conference title.”
