Lobos Drop Pair of 4-1 Matches at HBU Beach Invitational

HOUSTON, Texas—  The pairing of Lauren Twitty and Dali Rosado won both of their Friday matches to tally the only team points of the day for The University of New Mexico beach volleyball team, however, the Lobos dropped both matches to Houston Baptist and New Orleans by identical scores of 4-1.

In the first match of the HBU Beach Invitational against host Houston Baptist early Friday morning, HBU won the first two courts of the match with Abbey Willison and Emily Nenninger falling by narrow margins of 21-19 in both sets. Court five with Claire Nenninger and Jaclyn Inclan was the only court to go three sets, in which the Lobos dropped the first set 21-19 before winning the second set 21-19. In the third set, the Huskies won the team point with a 15-4 win to gain a 2-0 lead in the team score.

Twitty and Rosado cut the deficit to one at 2-1 with a straight set 21-14, 21-18 victory on the first court.

However, HBU won the next team point on the third court with Joey Benson and Carly Beddingfield falling 22-20, 21-15 in straight sets to claim the team win. Yasmin Tan and Morgan Schreckler was the final team to finish on the second court with a 23-21, 21-17 loss.

Against New Orleans, the Lobos once again fell behind 2-0 after Wilison and E. Nenninger lost 21-10 in the first set and a close 29-27 decision in the second set. Inclan and C. Nenninger lost in three sets with a 21-15 win in the first set a 21-14 loss in the second set and a 15-8 loss in the third set.

The Privateers won the clinching team point on the third court after Benson and Beddingfield lost in two close sets, 21-18, 23-21. Schreckler and Tan also fell in two close sets by scores of 21-17, 21-19.

Twitty and Rosado were the final pairing to finish on court one, going three sets. The duo lost the first set 21-12 before responding with a 21-12, 15-8 win in sets two and three, respectively.

Rosado and Twitty move to 14-4 on the season with their two wins on the day and have won their last five matches.

UNM closes out the HBU Beach Invitational with an 8 a.m. MT matchup with Texas A&M-Kingsville and a 10 a.m. MT contest with Texas A&M- Corpus Christi.
