UNM Sweeps Abilene Christian in Saturday Home Opener
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— In its first home match of the season, The University of New Mexico beach volleyball team took care of Abilene Christian at Lucky 66 in a Saturday sweep.
All five courts went straight sets and in six sets the Wildcats were held to 10 points or less.
In the first two matches of the day, Abbey Willison and Emily Nenninger won an easy first set, 21-9 before pulling away late in the second set with a 21-14 set win on the fourth court. The pairing of Claire Nenninger and Jaclyn Inclan won in identical 21-10 set scores to make it 2-0 UNM early.
Court one with Lauren Twitty and Dali Rosado won easily with scores of 21-10, 21-9 and on court two, Yasmin Tan and Morgan Schreckler won 21-10, 21-12 to clinch the team win and then go ahead 4-0. The third court with Joey Benson and Carly Beddingfield was the closest of the matchups, with UNM winning 21-18, 21-12 in the final court to finish.
The Lobos and Wildcats conclude the weekend with a final match on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Lucky 66. Prior to the match, Beddingfield, E. Nenninger and Twitty will be recognized.
