UNM Drops Pair of 3-2 Matches in Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz.–  The University of New Mexico beach volleyball team lost in two, 3-2 decisions on Friday at the University of Arizona’s Bear Down Beach, first to Louisiana-Monroe and then to North Florida.

The Lobos dropped their match against Louisiana-Monroe by a 3-2 score to bring to an end their two-match win streak, with the Warhawks taking the first three courts before the Lobos closed with the final two team points.

Three of the courts went to three sets, with UNM winning in two of them. UNM only won the first set on one court (court four).

Court one’s pairing of Lauren Twitty and Dali Rosado tallied the first point for UNM with a three-set victory, dropping the first set 18-21 before responding with winning the next two sets with a 21-18 win in set two and 15-12 in the decisive third set. It is the sixth consecutive match that the duo has won their court and the eighth time this season.

Abbey Willison and Emily Nenninger captured the second team point on court four to close the morning contest, winning the first set in a close 21-19 verdict before the roles were reversed and they dropped the second set by the same 21-19 score. In the third set, the duo won 15-10 to win the set and the court.

The fifth court was the first to finish with Claire Nenninger and Jaclyn Inclan falling 21-13, 21-10, followed by Yasmin Tan and Morgan Schreckler on court two in a 21-11, 24-22 defeat.

Court three clinched the team win for ULM with the team of Joey Benson and Carly Beddingfield falling in straight sets, 21-17, 21-18.

UNM fared better this time around against ULM, winning one more point than the Lobos did in their last meeting with the Warhawks. In the March 1 meeting, Twitty and Rosado were responsible for the lone Lobo team point.

In the match against North Florida, the Ospreys got out to a 2-0 team lead before Twitty and Rosado put the Lobos on the board on court one with a straight-set victory. However, UNF took the next point on court three to clinch the match before Schreckler and Tan tallied the second Lobo point on court two in a three-set win.

Willison and E. Nenninger were the first team to finish, dropping a straight-set 21-18, 21-16 decision on court four. C. Nenninger and Inclan were the next to fall, losing 21-13, 21-18 on court five.

On court one, Twitty and Rosado won the second set 22-20 after winning the first set 21-15 to capture the team point, making it 2-1 in favor of UNF.

Benson and Beddingfield lost on the third court 21-13, 21-18 to secure the team victory for UNF.

Schreckler and Tan were the only court that went to three sets, winning the first set 21-16 before dropping the second set 18-21 to force a third set. The duo won 15-11 to take the team point and close out the match at 3-2.

The Lobos close the weekend with two matches on Saturday, facing Arizona State and Arizona at 10 a.m. MT and 1 p.m. MT, respectively.
