Lobos Lose Pair at Emerald Beach Hotel Classic

KINGSVILLE, Texas—
  The University of New Mexico beach volleyball team fell to Louisiana-Monroe 4-1 on Friday morning to open the Emerald Beach Hotel Classic before losing a close 3-2 decision to Houston Baptist.

All five courts went two sets,with Lauren Twitty and Dali Rosado registering the lone win for the Lobos in the morning contest,winning in two sets (21-15, 21-17) on court one of the Javelina Beach Volleyball Courts. It was the second win of the season for the pair, who also had the lone court win in the opening weekend matchup with Grand Canyon. 

The duo of Yasmin Tan and Morgan Schreckler lost 21-10, 21-15 on court two and Joey Benson and Carly Beddingfield lost a close first set 21-19 before falling 21-8 on the third court.  Jaclyn Inclan and Emily Nenninger fell 21-10, 21-14 on court four and on court five, Claire Nenninger and Abbey Willison lost 21-15, 21-17.

ULM picked up the first two team points, with courts four and five the first two courts to finish. Twitty and Rosado made it 2-1 in favor of ULM, but the Lobos lost on courts two and three to give ULM the win.

The Lobos held closer in their match versus Houston Baptist, but unfortunately were unable to find the win.

Inclan and Claire Nenninger were the first to finish their match, losing 21-13, 21-17 in two sets. Willison and Emily Nenninger evened the score at one with a three-set, 18-21, 21-17, 15-13 victory on court four. It was the first win of the season for the pair.

HBU went ahead 2-1 on court three with Benson and Beddingfield losing 21-13, 21-10. The Huskies captured the match on court one with a defeat of Twitty and Rosado (21-11, 21-18).

Schreckler and Tan won the final point for UNM on court two with a three-set 16-21, 21-14, 16-14 victory for the pair’s first win of the season.

The Lobos conclude the tournament tomorrow with two matches against host Texas A&M-Kingsville and Missouri Baptist.
