Grøv, Busengdal Named RMISA MVPs
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — The University of New Mexico ski team swept the men’s conference honors as Kornelius Grøv was named the men’s Nordic MVP and Vegard Busengdal was named men’s Alpine MVP as the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association announced league MVPs and the All-Conference teams in all four disciplines.
Joining Grøv and Busengdal, who also were both named First Team All-Conference was Ricardo Izquierdo-Bernier who was named First Team in Nordic, Rebecca Fiegl, who was named First Tea.m in alpine, and Soňa Moravčíková, who was named Second Team in alpine.
Since the advent of the MVP awards in 2009, Busengdal is the fifth Lobo to win men’s alpine MVP, and Grøv is the second Lobo to win men’s Nordic. In alpine, Thomas Schwab won in 2009, Petter Brenna won in 2010, Arin Triendl won in 2012 and Sean Horner won in 2014. In Nordic, Martin Kaas won the award twice, in 2010 and 2011.
Overall, UNM and Colorado have had the most RMISA MVPs with 12 each, one ahead of Denver, which has had 11. All five Lobos are a part of the 12-person contingent that qualified for NCAA Nationals March 6-9 in Vermont. Busengdal was the only repeat All-RMISA selection from last year.
