New Mexico Falls To No. 11 Minnesota, 75-35

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Jamie Broback scored 14 points to lead No. 11 Minnesota’sbalanced offense in a 75-35 victory over No. 23 New Mexico on Sunday.
Even though Minnesota’s All-American center Janel McCarville played onlyeight minutes because of foul trouble, New Mexico trailed 35-16 at halftime.Those are the Lobos’ fewest points scored and most allowed in a half thisseason.
Broback was the only Gophers player in double figures, but six scored eightor nine points each for Minnesota (13-2).
Dionne Marsh led New Mexico (10-2) with 11 points.
The Gophers switched between relentless full-court pressure and a half-courttrap, which forced New Mexico into 16 first-half turnovers and limited theLobos to 27 percent shooting. By halftime, the Gophers had already shot morefree throws (16) than the Lobos had allowed in an entire game this year.
A 16-2 run by Minnesota midway through the second half sealed the victory,and its defense kept the Lobos 21 points below their previous season-low for agame.
