Jon-Michael Perea, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, joined the Lobo Family in September of 2024, and he serves as the department’s IT technician. He brings to UNM extensive experience in technical support and IT management, most recently serving as a Computer Technology Teacher at Belen High School.
With UNM, Perea will service as the lead IT tech, helping UNM Athletics with desktop support, special projects, directory-based management tools, and core Athletics ticketing software support.
At Belen, Perea developed and taught Career Technical Education (CTE) programs focused on IT certifications for students in grades 9-12. He has also spent time as an Infrastructure Administrator at Rio Cities Internet, a local WISP, maintaining, repairing, and deploying new infrastructure to connect rural communities to the internet.
His background also includes six years as a Computer Technician and Systems Administrator at Belen Consolidated Schools. Perea has a coaching background, coaching softball and girls’ soccer at Belen High School He and his wife have three kids and two grandkids.
