Dave Buchholz is in his 14th year as director of the Lobo League, one of the largest recreational volleyball programs in the country.

Buchholz came to UNM from Tempe, Ariz., where he spent almost eight years as general manager of a family fun park. In his spare time, he officiated city and school league basketball, volleyball and softball.

Buchholz went to Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee, Wis. for two years. He earned an associate’s degree and was on the soccer and basketball teams. In 1988, he graduated from Unity College in Maine with a bachelor’s degree in Outdoor Recreation. In addition to being valedictorian, he was a member of the basketball and cross country teams. Buchholz earned his master’s degree in Recreation Administration from Arizona State University in 1993. While there, he was a graduate assistant in the Recreational Sports & Student Activities Department.

Buchholz is married to Anita Obermeier, a professor in the English Department at UNM. The couple has two daughters, Isabella and Sophia. When not in the office, Buchholz enjoys surfing, running, playing golf and watching movies.
