position

Assistant Coach

Head coach Erica Beach and the University of New Mexico softball team announced the hiring of assistant softball coach Alicia Herron on September 20, 2016. Most recently, Herron worked with Make the Team in Ohio, developing and training kids in fundamentals and mechanics in the game of softball.

“Alicia is an incredible addition to the Lobo softball family,” said Beach. “She was an incredible athlete and brings such positivity and passion to our team.”

Herron will be assisting Beach with hitting and infielders. She is very familiar with Beach’s coaching style as she played for Beach at Ohio State.

Herron mostly played shortstop in her time as a Buckeye but is also known for her power hitting. She was a First Team All-Big Ten selection and First Team All-Midwest honoree. In her freshman season, she broke the Ohio State home run record with 14.

Not only will she help on the field but off the field as well. She graduated with Magna Cume Laude honors from Ohio State. She was a First Team Academic All-America, Academic All-District, OSU Scholar-Athlete and an Academic All-Big Ten honoree.

Over the last couple years, she has played on various professional teams, including overseas in Australia and Italy, along with the Akron Racers.

Lobo softball will be hosting two doubleheaders this fall on Oct. 8 (1 p.m.) and Oct. 9 (12 p.m.) at the Lobo Softball Field.
