IDAHO (2022-24): Franks spent three years on Coach Jason Eck’s staff at Idaho as cornerbacks coach.

His 2024 squad allowed just over 200 yards a game passing as Idaho ranked eighth nationally in fourth down conversion and his corner Andrew Marshall was named First Team All-Big Sky.

In 2023 Idaho’s defense limited opponents to just 182.2 yards passing as the team including 21 takeaways with Marcus Harris earned First Team All-Big Sky honors.  The 182.2 passing yards allowed marked the second straight season that the Vandals allowed fewer of 200 yards per game passing as the squad allowed just 190.0 yards per game in 2022.

That 2022 yardage was nearly 70 yards per game better than the previous season before his arrival.  The Vandals also ranked fifth in the FCS with 16 interceptions.  In 2022 Marcus Harris was Second Team All-Big Sky after scoring two defensive touchdowns and defending 14 passes on the season, which at the time was the third-most in Idaho history.

WASHINGTON STATE (2020-21): Franks spent two seasons with the Cougars of Washington State as a defensive quality control coach.  Washington State’s 2021 season saw the Cougars go 7-6 and make the Tony The Tiger Sun Bowl.  The Cougars ranked seventh nationally in turnover margin and fifth in total takeaways with 29 (14 fumble recoveries and 15 interceptions).  Washington State also ranked 10th nationally in red zone defense and 20th in passing efficiency defense.

CABRILLO COLLEGE (2019): Spent one season as the defensive coordinator at Cabrillo, where the Seahawks went 8-3.  Cabrillo in his lone season scored five defensive touchdowns and picked off 21 passes and allowed just 26 red zone scores in 38 opponent attempts. His defense also recorded 47 sacks while allowing opponents to complete just 46.4% of its passes.

BRITISH COLUMBIA (CFL) (2017-18): Franks spent two years in the Canadian Football League as an assistant defensive backs and quality control coach.  In his two seasons, the Lions ranked either first or second in passes broken up or interceptions.

IDAHO STATE (2013-16): Franks spent four seasons in Pocatello, Idaho as the defensive back coach, where he oversaw the corners and safeties while also recruiting Southern California.  While there the Bengals had its best season in 13 years with an 8-4 season and a tie for second place at 6-2 in the Big Sky, led by Third Team All-Big Sky pick Taison Manu.

SPOKANE SHOCK (AF2) (2012): Franks started his professional coaching career with a season as defensive backs and defensive coordinator for the Spokane Shock of the Arena Football League 2.

PLAYING CAREER – LONG BEACH COLLEGE (2004-05); IDAHO (2006-07); SAN DIEGO CHARGERS (NFL, 2008); SPOKANE SHOCK (AF2, 2009); B.C. LIONS (CFL, 2009-11): After a two-year stint at Long Beach College, he spent two seasons at Idaho where he made his mark.  In 2006 he led the FBS with nine interceptions, earning First Team All-Western Athletic Conference and Honorable Mention All-America honors from Sports Illustrated.  His season highlight in 2006 was a 98-yard interception return for a touchdown against Utah State, the fourth-longest in Idaho history, and it was part of a school record 220 yards of interception returns.

After Idaho, he signed a free agent contract with the San Diego Chargers before eventually spending three season in the CFL with the B.C. Lions.
