Tulsa, Okla.—The University of New Mexico men’s tennis team competed again today in the 2015 ITA All-American Championships. Jorge Escutia, who won his match in the round of 256, played in the round of 128. He battled to defeat Oliver Plaskett of University of Arizona 6-2, 6-2. He advanced to the round of 64 where he went up against Sebastian Rey of Tulane University. He fought hard, but fell short 6-4, 6-3.
The Lobos finished almost perfect in consolation play. Augustus Ge, Michael Tran and Rodolfo Jauregui all won their singles consolation matches today. Sean Baklini fought hard, but lost to Vincent Gillespie of Drake 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.
“We had a better day today,” said head coach Bart Scott. “The guys put in play some of the things we keyed on from yesterday. We now turn our attention the qualifiers where Hayden and 3 doubles teams will compete.”
Hayden Sabatka advanced to the first round of qualifier in singles play and will compete against Nick Bybel of Bucknell University Monday morning. The ITA All-American continues through the week.
