Chris Roberts joined the Lobo Family in January 2025, and he serves as an assistant special teams coach. He previously served as Special Teams Assistant Coordinator at UTSA for five seasons.
With UNM, the Lobos excelled in special teams. UNM returned two kickoffs for a touchdown, and also had a punt return for a touchdown, the first time that occurred at UNM since 1996.
Luke Drzewiecki tied for the national lead in field goal percentage, and Lobo punter Daniel Hughes was named a Ray Guy Award semifinalist as UNM set a school record with a 43.3. net average.
With UTSA, the Roadrunners won two bowls and a pair of Conference USA titles. In 2024, the Roadrunners finished first in The American in blocked kicks and kickoff returns. They were second in blocked punts and punt coverage, with UTSA's kickoff returns and punt coverage finishing first and third nationally.
In 2022, kicker Jared Sacket was a Lou Groza semifinalist, and in 202, punter Lucas Dean was a Second Team All-America selection by Sporting News.
Before UTSA, Roberts spent 2019 at McMurray, serving as Special Teams Coordinator, Defensive Run Game Coordinator, and Outside Linebackers Coach. From 2004 to 2012, he served as an assistant and head coach in the Texas high school ranks, including at Central Catholic in San Antonio.
Roberts graduated from East Texas A&M in 1996 with a bachelor's degree.
