NEW MEXICO: A leader on defense entering his senior seaon in 2014 who could have a big impact on the defense … a tough-nosed kid who is one of the most coachable players on the team … looking to expand his role on the team in 2014 by competing to become the team’s starting punter as well … a decorated junior college transfer who enrolled in January, 2013 and will participate in spring practice as a junior … a tough-nosed kid who loves to hit, according to College of the Siskiyous coach Charlie Roche, and plays with a chip on his shoulder because of all the people who told him he was too small to be an effective defensive back…247sports.com rated him rated the No. 12 junior college safety prospect in the country…chose New Mexico over an offer from Illinois … actively participates in a spring after-school exercise program with a local elementary school… a 2013 Academic All-Mountain West honoree.

2013 (JUNIOR): A productive first year with the Lobos, finishing third on the team with 65 takcles, fourth with 4.5 tackles for loss, tied for first with five pass breakups and tied for second with two sacks … played in all 12 games with 11 starts … led the Lobos with eight tackles against in-state rival New Mexico State … had nine games of five tackles or better on the season.

JUNIOR COLLEGE: A first-team Region II All-California Community College honoree for College of the Siskiyous in 2012, as well as a two-time Mid-Empire All-Conference selection…had 53 tackles and five interceptions in 11 games in ’12. Siskiyous went 10-1 and beat Chabot College 47-18 in the Top of the State Bowl, in which Guthrie had an 85-yard interception return for a TD.

HIGH SCHOOL: An Oregon Class 4A first-team All-State wide receiver and defensive back, as well as a second-team all-state punter for Douglas High School in 2010…had 68 receptions for 1,083 yards and 16 TDs on offense and 70 tackles on defense his senior season for coach Joe Polamalu, who is the cousin of current Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu…A four-year letterman in football, basketball and track, Guthrie was a Douglas HS Athlete of the Year nominee his senior season…a member of the school’s honor roll.
