Lobos Announce Seven More Signees, 25 Total

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — University of New Mexico head coach Bob Davie, who enters his eighth year with the program in 2019, has announced six more signees for the 2019 football campaign, bringing the total class to 24.  The signees represent 13 states and five time zones (Atlantic, Central, Mountain, Pacific and Hawaiian).  

Overall, Davie picked up 15 new players on defense, a side of the ball hit hard by graduation as UNM will return just one starter, Aaron Blackwell, although two would-be starters will return from injury in Trent Sellers and Alex Hart.  On the defensive side, UNM picked up six defensive backs, five linebackers and four linemen.

On offense, UNM added 10 new players, four linemen, three receivers, one quarterback, one running back and one tight end.  UNM returns almost it’s whole offensive line, and overall the offense only lost four starters.

The February 6 signing day is the traditional one for football, but in 2017, a new December early signing period was implemented.  UNM signed 18 over that December 19-21 period with two more student-athletes enrolling in school over the break.

*Lettered at Hutchinson Community College for coach Rion Rhodes.
*As a sophomore he recorded five interceptions, 12 pass breakups and 39 tackles.
*Recorded 53 yards in returns on his five interceptions, and he added 2.5 TFLs.
*Earned Honorable Mention All-KJCAA honors in helping Hutchinson to a top-10 ranking.
HIGH SCHOOL 
*Lettered at Boca Ciega High School for coach Max Smith.
*Over his final two seasons he recorded 115 tackles, two interceptions (returning one for a touchdown), and he also played on offense, scoring three rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown
*Averaged 28.9 yards per kickoff return.

*Was named First Team All-NCC as a freshman in 2017, recording 39 tackles, 15.0 for loss, 10.5 sacks (for 64 yards), six pass breakups, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
