Tulsa, Okla.—The University of New Mexico men’s tennis squad has been competing in the 2015 ITA All-American Championships and today they started qualifying doubles play. The duos of Rodolfo Jauregui/ Michael Tran and Jorge Escutia /Augustus Ge suffered tough losses in the round of 64.
Hayden Sabatka and Bart Van Leijsen won their match in the round of 64 against Miami’s Jesse Flores and Christian Langmo 6-4, 6-4. Their victory pushes them into the round of 32 tomorrow. The pair is seeded #2 in the qualifiers, meaning they missed the main draw by a mere 2 spots.
In the ITA Division 1 Men’s National Doubles Ranking, the duo is ranked No. 29.
“Bart and Hayden looked very solid tonight,” said head coach Bart Scott. “The Competition will only get tougher from here. They will be ready to perform and have fun tomorrow against a good team from Florida.”
The Lobos will continue to compete in this tournament until they head home for the Balloon Fiesta Invitational that they are hosting the weekend of Oct. 8-10th.
