Dakota Winchell joined the Lobo family in February 2025 and serves as Director of Video Technology. He came to UNM after serving in a similar capacity at the University of Idaho, where he worked with coach Jason Eck.
In New Mexico, Winchell oversees all game and practice filming, including uploading and breaking out film by position and situation. He is responsible for maintaining the latest technology for the coaching staff and players to review video. He also serves as UNM’s liaison for conference technology regarding the use of in-game tablets.
Winchell was instrumental in UNM's trip to the Rate Bowl in 2025, coordinating practices off-site and setting up a dedicated server at UNM's host hotel to allow players and staff to break down practice and game footage instantly. He also oversees a large student and support staff team, which enables a seamless transition from filming practices and games to delivering film instantly to players and staff.
Winchell began his collegiate career with the Vandals in June 2023 as the Director of Video and Technology Services, a position he held for two seasons. Winchell handled all game and practice film for Vandal football and other Vandal sports.
Before Idaho, Winchell worked as a student assistant with the University of Houston football program. While in Houston, he also worked on the Houston Roughnecks' (XFL) game-day video staff.
Winchell graduated from the University of Houston in 2023 with a Bachelor’s in Sport Administration. The Eau Claire, Wis., is married to Hailey, and they have a son, Miles.
