Lobos to Compete at Bryan Clay, Beach Invitational this Weekend in California

New Mexico Track & Field returns to California this weekend for competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational (Azusa, Calif.) and the Beach Invitational (Long Beach, Calif.), with three-time All-American freshman sensation Habtom Samuel racing in the Men’s 5,000m at Azusa for his first NCAA-sanctioned outdoor competition and 2023 XC All-American Nicola Jansen making her season 5K debut to highlight Friday’s distance racing.

This weekend’s action begins Thursday morning over in Long Beach for UNM’s sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers and vaulters, running from when Women’s long jump (Elizabeth White) and Men’s pole vault (Kyle Hatler) kick off at 9 a.m. MT until Men’s and Women’s 200m races conclude at 6:40 p.m. UNM gets things started in Azusa roughly two hours later, with Sophia McDonnell competing in the Women’s 3,000m steeplechase at 8:30 p.m. before Hanna Bruckmayer makes her 10,000m debut at 10:30 p.m.

New Mexico enters this weekend ranked 37th in the nation on the Men’s side and 102nd on the Women’s side in the UstFCCCA’s TFRI ranking index. the Lobos rank among the Top 35 in the nation in eight different events in the national #EventSquad rankings – the Men’s 200m (29th), Men’s 800m (29th), Men’s 1500m (14th), Men’s 10,000m (1st), Women’s 800m (35th), Women’s 1500m (9th), Women’s Long Jump (26th) and Women’s Pole Vault (35th). The Lobos rank eighth (men) and 10th (women) in the Mountain Region.
