Lehigh Turns in Career-Best Performance as Lobos Wrap PING/ASU Invite

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Sophomore Lauren Lehigh of The University of New Mexico women’s golf team tied her season-low score of 71 in round three at the PING/ASU Invitational to lead the Lobos to a 10th-place finish.

She finished a season-best tied for 17th overall with a final score of 217 (+1), marking her best career overall performance. Her previous career-best over three rounds was a seven-over in the Cougar Cup in Fall 2019.

Lehigh, who wrapped up all three rounds with scores of 73, 73 and 71, also finished fifth overall in par-5 scoring (4.50, -6) and posted 12 birdies, tying for fourth overall.

Freshman Myah McDonald was just three strokes behind after also registering a career-best 71 in round three. She tied for 30th overall after shooting a 77 and 72 in rounds one and two, respectively while also tying for seventh in par-3 scoring.

The remaining Lobos finished just seven strokes apart as senior Caroline Jansson tied for 46th with a score of 224 (+8), followed by Napat “Jenny” Lertsadwattana in 55th with a score of 226 (+10). Lertsadwattana went an even 72 in both of the first two rounds, but struggled in round three with an 82.

Senior Reva Morris shot her lowest score of the competition in round three, a 75 (+3), to finish 69th with a score of 230 (+14) while junior Serena Chon, competing as an individual, shot a 77 for a total of 231 (+15).

As a team, the Lobos finished second in par-5 scoring (4.78, -13) and third in birdies with 42.

No. 7 Arizona State and No. 15 Oregon tied for first overall with a final score of 862 (-2), followed by No. 34 Michigan (864, E).

New Mexico finished 10th with a final score of 880 (+16) and was one of two Mountain West squads to compete. San José State finished 12th with a final score of 887 (+23).

The Lobos are scheduled to return to competition on April 11-12 when they host their first tournament of the season, the 2021 Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational at the UNM Championship Course.
