Lobos Close Out Regular Season with 4-1 Win over AF

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The University of New Mexico Men’s Tennis team finished the weekend in Colorado with one last victory.
 
The Lobos (12-12, 4-3 MW) closed out their last conference, and regular season, match with a 4-1 win over Air Force (8-16, 1-6 MW) on Saturday afternoon.
 
In doubles, Rodolfo Jauregui and Sean Baklini were defeated by Isaac Perez and Luke Sanderson of AFA 6-4 at the No. 3 doubles spot. Bart Van Leijsen and Dominic West grasped a 7-5 victory over Lucas Fumagalli and Mack Galvin at the No. 1 doubles spot.
 
In a battle for the doubles point, Ricky Hernandez-Tong and Lawrence Perrin snatched the win after defeating Max Olson and Tadhg Collins 7-5 at the No. 2 spot. This gave the Lobos the 1-0 doubles point advantage over the Falcons.
 
In singles, Hernandez-Tong brought the Lobos up to 2-0 after defeating Perez 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot. West fell to Fumagalli 6-7, 3-6 at the No. 3 spot that brought the Falcons one win. Van Leijsen defeated Olson 7-6, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot and Jauregui, once again, clinched the match point for the Lobos over Galvin 6-2, 7-6.
 
“Good win. AFA fought hard as always and we are happy to be heading home with a win,” head coach Ben Dunbar said. “We made some steps forward this weekend. It was great to see Fito clinch both matches this weekend and fun to see the guys compete the right way. On to Boise for the fun that comes with the MWC tournament!”
 
New Mexico heads to the 2017 Mountain West Conference tournament in Boise, Idaho on Friday, April 28. Matches will be held at the Appleton Tennis Center. Stay tuned for updates on seeding selection, opponents, and scheduled times this upcoming week.
