Men’s Tennis heads to Utah

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico men’s tennis team is taking a break from the west coast for awhile and will head to Utah for the weekend where they will play three matches against BYU, Nebraska and Utah.

Last weekend, the Lobos (1-5) dropped a close 4-3 match to Cal Poly after battling through some rough weather conditions. Ricky Hernandez-Tong (10-4) currently leads the team in singles wins and is followed close behind by Rodolfo Jauregui (9-6). The doubles pair of Hernandez-Tong/ Jauregui (5-4) also leads the team in doubles wins followed by Bart Van Leijsen/Dominic West (3-2) and Sean Baklini/Jorge Escutia (3-2).

New Mexico’s first match will be against the BYU Cougars in Provo, Utah at the Indoor Tennis Courts on Friday, Feb. 17 at 4:00 p.m. MT. BYU (6-4) is coming off a 4-2 win over Boise State and a 2-4 loss against Utah. Last season, the No. 70 Lobos defeated the No. 44 Cougars 4-3 in Albuquerque. There will be a live video broadcast and live stats that can be found here on the day of the match.
 
The following day, the team heads to Salt Lake City, Utah to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers at the University of Utah. The match will begin at 2 p.m. MT on Saturday, Feb. 18 at the Eccles Tennis Center. Nebraska (0-5) ended last weekend with a 7-0 loss to Fresno State.
 
The Lobos will close out the weekend with a match against the Utah Utes on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 1:30 p.m. MT at the same location. Utah (8-1) is coming off a successful weekend of wins over BYU and Boise State.

The match that was originally scheduled against Utah State on Monday Feb. 20 has been rescheduled for Sunday, April 9 at 11 a.m. in Logan, Utah due to Utah State making the ITA National Indoor Competition.
